TY - JOUR AB - Book Reviews Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry Techniques and Applications by A. L. Yergey, C. G. Edmunds, I. A. S. Lewis, M. L. Vestal Plenum Publishing, London. ISBN 0-306-43186-6, Price: $ 65.00 This book, written by four very experienced pioneers in the field, explores many of the most effective methods used in coupling these two powerful techniques. The early chapters cover each method in depth. The physical and engineering bases are well described and the frequent use of diagrammatic representation and high quality drawing make this very readable. The first chapter is a short introduction outlining the concepts of compatibility and desirable characteristics of the interface. The next four chapters take each method in turn, starting with Direct Liquid Introduction (DLI), through mechanical transport devices and Thermospray to a short note on the Particle Beam interface. A brief history and principle of each technique is given. Vestal's chapter on Thermospray merits special mention. The history, physics, developmental aspects and characteristics of the parameters are all discussed. The arguments presented should ensure the reader obtains optimum performance, whilst the principles discussed are of general applicability. The second part of the book deals with applications of LC/ MS to the perennially popular TI - Announcements JF - Chromatographia DO - 10.1007/BF02275738 DA - 1994-01-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/announcements-59oZDxTfJf SP - 120 EP - 121 VL - 38 IS - 1 DP - DeepDyve ER -
