P. Matveev UDC 622.600.412 Plunger proportioning pumps are widely used in many industries. The efficiency of these pumps depends, above all, on the serviceability of the valve devices (VD), for example, on the airtightness of the joint between the surface of the ball valve and the seat. Achieving precision in the contact surface of the seat in the circumferential (tangential) and radial directions is a prin- cipal problem in ensuring the airtightness of this joint. Of the three known methods of machining the contact surface of the seat [ 1, 2], the calibration (impression) of this sur- face by a spherical tool (ball) the diameter D c of which corresponds to the diameter D of the valve, is the most productive method and ensures interchangability. An airtight contact surface is formed for the seat by mating two surfaces - flat and cylindrical; here, each of these sur- faces affects the precision of the contact surface.
