TY - JOUR AU - AB - Background. The article shows the problem of clinical laboratory diagnostics optimization in gerontodentistry as well as urgency of immunomodulation in periodontology. Gingival fluid, having a lot of cell constituents, was used to evaluate the immune status of elderly patients. The laboratory parameter “E:N:L” is associated with a degree of inflammation manifestation in parodontium, that can be used for treatment efficacy estimating. Authors suggested Polyoxidonium for immunomodulation, promoting faster immune and clinical recovery compared to conventional treatment modules. Objectives. Estimation of “E:N:L” changes in gingival fluid, depending on immunomodulation, added to the treatment regimen of elderly patients with periodontitis. Methods. 2 patient cohorts of 64 elderly persons with chronic generalized periodontitis were examined. All patients were administered the conventional treatment. But the patients in the second cohort, along with other medications, recieved Polyoxidonium. The examination included gingival fluid sampling (according to Chukaeva N.A.), estimation of “E:N:L” changes in the course of treatment. Results. The study revealed the “E:N:L” disbalance in gingival fluid. The recovery trend was noticed in both cohorts, with a more marked dynamics in the second group. Mean values of “E:N:L” in this clinical group were statistically valid compared to similar measures in the first one.
