TY - JOUR AB - European Environmental Law Rev~ew Dece~ Czech Republic Alexandra Hraska and Michal Hrask$* Environmental Aid for the Highest Czech Mountains In our previous contributions we dealt mostly with the latest legal regulations in the suhere of ~rotectionof the environment. The aim of this contribution is to show some factual steps taken in the protection of the quality of the environment in the Czech Republic. The Giant Mountains are a range of mountains on the northern border of the Czech Republic (the highest peak is Sneika, 1603 m). For several decades this mountain range has been devastated by emissions from the Czech, Polish and German industrial centres. The problem is the so-called acid rains. They spread over the frontiers to such an extent that the Dutch foundation FACE, which helps to solve such ecological catastrophes in a number of countries, decided to support the struggle towards afforestation of the Giant Mountains. The basic target is to plant resistant woods on both the Czech and Polish sides of the mountains. Under preparation is a joint Czech-Polish project, according to which every year some 60 hectares should be afforested.
