AB - Blue litmus paper should not be used to check for correct placement of nasogastric tubes according to a medical device alert issued by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. Anyone responsible for passing nasogastric tubes and administering fluids though them is advised to use pH indicator strips that cover the appropriate pH range to ensure that malpositioning of the tube does not go undetected.
