Kasper, Dan Schaefer, Zackary Cicone, Hannah Acton. Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL. (No relationships reported) BACKGROUND: A commercially available bite-aligning mouthpiece (Under Armour ArmourBite®) for non-contact sports might enhance performance through jaw realignment. Previous studies using highly trained athletes have shown a favorable influence when wearing the mouthpiece on several outcome variables including strength, speed, power, reaction time, and throw ing velocity. No data are available regarding golf performance. PURPOSE: To compare golf ball hitting performance in elite collegiate golfers when wearing a performance mouthpiece (MP) in comparison to no mouthpiece (NoMP) use. METHODS: After IRB approval and informed consent 7 female and 6 male collegiate NCAA I golfers voluntarily participated in 2 identical testing sessions. Using a randomized cross-over design, each athlete was assigned use of the mouthpiece at either session 1 or session 2 with 2 days between sessions. After a warm-up, each athlete hit 5 golf balls off a tee with their driver TI - F-32 Ergogenic Aids and Fitness JO - Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise DA - 2015-05-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/wolters-kluwer-health/f-32-ergogenic-aids-and-fitness-2seHJ0uyO6 SP - - VL - 47 IS - DP - DeepDyve ER -
