Since the early 1980s, that meeting has always featured a presentation by attorneys from the firm of Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman (“CLL”) recapping the year’s most significant copyright decisions, accompanied by a 100-page (or longer) single-spaced report describing each case in a pithy, tightly focused paragraph that precisely identifies the case’s most salient copyright issues and the way the court resolved them. This docu- ment, generally known as the Annual Review, has become an indispensible resource for copyright practitioners, and former Register of Copyrights, Ralph Oman, has called it the “secret treasure” of Copyright Society members.
