TY - JOUR AU - LEWIS, LYNN, C. AB - Abstract The problem is idealized as the line loading of the sheet (plane stress), interacting with a stringer in simple extension through a uniform, elastic adhesive layer in pure shear. A mixed Volterra-Fredholm integral equation governing the adhesive shear flow is solved for a range of the two dimensionless parameters of the problem. These parameters describe the relative stiffness of adhesive and sheet, and the relative stiffness of adhesive and stringer. Results indicate uniform shear flow (little stress concentration) when the adhesive is very flexible, but the possibility of very large stress concentrations at one or both stringer ends if the adhesive layer is relatively stiff.
