TY - JOUR AU - Gilyarevskii, R. AB - BOOK REVIEWS E.F. Skorokhod'ko Reviewed by G.E. Vldduts and R.S. Gilyarevskii At the present time it has become clear that further progress in the development and use of infor- mation search systems (ISS) depends not so much on improvement of machine means of automation as on the solution of a number of theoretical problems almost the first of which is the linguistic problem. To it belong, mainly, the description of the semantics of natural language and the creation of the linguistic apparatus of automated ISS (information languages, methods of translation into these languages, and cri- teria for semantic correspondence between requests and documents). Therefore the initiative of the "Vishcha Shkola" Press in publishing the first book in the USSR giving a detailed analysis of the linguistic aspects of information search is laudable. The chapters of the book sequentially consider: I. Some problems of semantics (the plan of the content of a language, a word, and the text). II. Scientific and technical terminology (systematization of the plan of the content, the plan of expression, and the correspondence between these plans). HI. Information languages (their structure, semantic force and classification, description of Sintol, and the language of RX codes). IV.
