TY - JOUR AU - Wei, Cheng‐Huang AB - Fiber‐optic sensors provide a simple and fast way in detection of interested molecules in variety of sample matrices. To accelerate the progress in this field, the basic sensing principles and current technologies of both extrinsic and intrinsic types of fiber‐optic sensors were described in this article. In the intrinsic fiber‐optic sensors, evanescent wave absorption spectroscopic method and fluorescence spectroscopic method based on evanescent wave excitation were introduced. In the extrinsic fiber‐optic sensors, two major types of sensors including fluorescence spectroscopic method and Raman spectroscopic method were described. The complementary chemical information and unique advantages of different sensors were described.
