TY - JOUR AB - Reactions 1443 - 16 Mar 2013 Exacerbation of mood symptoms: case report A 16-year-old girl with oppositional defiant disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder experienced exacerbation of her mood symptoms following treatment with methylprednisolone and prednisone [dosages and outcome not stated; not all routes and durations of treatment to reactions onset stated]. The girl was diagnosed with primary collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and subsequently developed diuretic-resistant severe anasarca. She began receiving high- dose IV methylprednisolone [Solumedrol] in combination with cyclophosphamide and continuous renal replacement therapy. Six months of methylprednisolone infusions led to complete remission of nephritic syndrome. However, treatment with methylprednisolone and prednisone exacerbated her mood symptoms, resulting in increased non-compliance with medications and dietary restrictions. Author comment: "Treatment with high dose SM [Solumedrol] and prednisone exacerbated the patient’s mood symptoms which lead to increased non-adherence with dietary restrictions and medications."
