AB - A depth gauge operated by a continuous air purge is described. A reference surface of liquid is maintained at a known level by making it one boundary of a variable area orifice and controlling the pressure differential across the orifice. The static pressure in the system is then a measure of the head of liquid in a vessel above the reference surface.
