For several years it has been my desire to construct a motor-driven milking machine which would be more efficient than the pumps that are offered for sale. Two years ago I exhibited the first model at a meeting of the American Pediatric Society. Since that time, many improvements and modifications have been made in the original model, and numerous clinical tests have been conducted. The new apparatus is much smaller, less complicated, and readily portable.

DESCRIPTION
Suction is obtained by an electrically driven, reciprocating pump with the aid of a vacuum chamber, combined with a special glass nipple shield (Fig. 1). The suction produced is not continuous, but alternates with expulsion. The degree of suction is registered by a gage which may be readily regulated to suit the convenience of the patient by a relief valve at the top of the pump.
