TY - JOUR AU - Loeb, Josh AB - A FARM vet has been reprimanded by an RCVS disciplinary panel for falsely and ‘dishonestly’ certifying that she had inspected backyard poultry during visits to several premises as part of an avian influenza surveillance programme.Amelia Briggs completed forms of a type known as ‘EXD44’ and submitted them to the APHA in respect of three premises in North Yorkshire in December 2021.It was alleged she stated in the forms that she had inspected poultry at the premises when she had not done so – something she admitted, although she denied this amounted to ‘dishonest’ conduct. In two of the cases Briggs located the correct premises and spoke with the keepers of the birds, while in the third she admitted she may have been unable to locate the property and said she submitted a ‘prepopulated’ form to the APHA by mistake. The three separate visits were carried out by Briggs in her capacity as an official veterinarian (OV) as part of a system of surveillance checks set up to monitor a serious outbreak of avian flu in North Yorkshire in late 2021. The disciplinary panel heard the system had put OVs in the area under extra ‘pressure’ and stress. In January 2022 an APHA TI - Vet reprimanded for dishonest certification JO - Veterinary Record DO - 10.1002/vetr.3861 DA - 2024-01-20 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/wiley/vet-reprimanded-for-dishonest-certification-0GEOHj7FP6 SP - 56 EP - 56 VL - 194 IS - 2 DP - DeepDyve ER -
