Aage A. Hansen-Löve (Wien) Ikonen - Gemälde - Photographien The artic1e deals with the intermediality ofpictoral genres in Deostoevsky's novels, especially in the novels The Idiot and The Adolescent. The main art forms or media in Dostoevsky's novels are calligraphy, icons, paintings (Holbein, Lorrain) and photography or portraiture. Each genre or medium is connected with specific narra tive, philosophical, theological, and psychological fimctions which are in a com plex way connected among themselves. The main question is about the authenticity of each medium in depicting the essence of the conditio humana. 1. Holbeins "Toter Christus" als Anti-Ikone und das Foto derfemmefatale In Dostoevskijs Roman Der Idiot rückt eine Hinrichtungsszene - zunächst scheinbar ganz unmotiviert - an den Anfang des Erzählens und markiert damit thematisch wie strukturell dessen fatale Grundbedingung. Zunächst schildert Fürst Myskin bei der Anreise nach Petersburg seinen Reisegefähr ten die grausige Erinnerung an eine Hinrichtungsszene in Lyon. Dabei geht es ihm nicht nur um das Skandalon der staatlich sanktionierten Tötung, son dern um eben jenes Paradoxon des Augenblicks, in dem sich die Hinrichtung vollzieht: - » Was, schreit der Mensch dabei sehr?« » Wo denken Sie hin!
