V 222 Electromedical Equipment Made Safer A new international Standard from the IEC covering EMC for medical electrical equipment stipulates requirements f or permissible electromagnetic emissions for both radio-frequency and low-frequency emissions. It covers requirements for the influence of magnetic fields äs well äs electromagnetic immunity in such areas äs electrostatic discharge, the radiated electromagnetic field, electrical fast transients/bursts and surge immunity. In spelling out these specifications, it uses safety-related performance criteria for the application of immunity tests. This new Standard also merges EMC requirements for this equipment into the existing IEC 601-1, which deals with general requirements for safety of electro-medical equipment. IEC 601-1-2 addresses the special needs of medical electrical equipment while incorporating them into general emission and immunity Standards.
