Remembering can be seen as tainted with nostalgia. These structures pulling on the past to shore up its longed-for illusion in the present, however, are not the only ones with which it is possible to build on present and future discourses. It is the method of looking into the politics of the past in the current shaping of the present, just as the future shapes the present in its potentialities, which might cause the present to pause and reassess. What is important is remembering so that an assumed past becomes reconsidered. Reviewing the course in which terminologies and concepts of “Asian Americas” and “Asian Diasporas” have developed influences how we continue to build on the field. Less of a longing to return to an originary monolithic moment or past of “Asia Americas” and “Asian Diaspora,” and more a return from many facets and framings, remembering can serve as an instruction to the very reasoning behind how we have come to the present and continue to shape our imaginings of the future in the field. Remembering then becomes intimately related to the immanent future. Remembering in this way comes into focus in this issue with the panel discussion on
