Otte danske romaner fra romantismen og naturalismen, Fremad, I62 pp., contributes to a better understanding of the Modern Break-Through by interpreting four novels from the pre-naturalistic period (Carl Bernhard's 'Lykkens Yndling', H. C. Andersen's 'At v<ere eller ikke v<ere', Meir Goldschmidt's 'Hjeml0s', and Fr. Paludan-Miiller's 'lvar Lykkes Historie') and four from the naturalistic period (Vilhelm Tops0e's 'Jason med det gyldne Skind', Herman Bang's 'Haabl0se Sl<egter', J. P. Jacobsen's 'Niels Lyhne', and Henrik Pontoppidan's 'Det forj<ettede Land').
