The text of what amounts to the complete diwan of Samuel Ibn Nagrela (993-1054), a most signifi­ cant figure in Hebrew-Spanish literature, has been recovered in recent years and has now been edited.! Mr. Sassoon's work thus renders accessible a considerable number of poems, hitherto un­ known, by the Jewish vizir at the Granadine court of King I:Iabbus. A well-planned selection of Moses Ibn 'Ezra's poems (Hebrew text and English translation opposite) comes from America, whilst a complete critical text of his secular poems has been prepared by Dr. Brody.3 Professor Garda Gomez publishes an elegant Spanish translation of Abu-1-Walid Isma'il b. Mu}:lammad al-Saqundi's Risiila, a masterpiece of Hispano-Arabic letters, and contributes an essay on the style of Ibn Quzman. s That the encyclopedia Sa' ar ha-Siimayim by Gerson b.
