Issues to grapple with in implementing the Ugandan Prohibition and Prevention of Torture Act In April 2012 the Ugandan Parliament passed the Prohibition and Prevention of Torture Act. This Act criminalises torture and puts in place several measures to ensure that torture perpetrators are identified, prosecuted and punished. Abstract

In April 2012 the Ugandan Parliament passed the Prohibition and Prevention of Torture Act. This Act criminalises torture and puts in place several measures to ensure that torture perpetrators are identified, prosecuted and punished. The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the challenges that are likely to be grappled with during the implementation of the Act and suggest ways through which they could be overcome.
