Bos, Cosmic and Meta-Cosmic Tbeology in Aristotle's Lost Dialogues (Leiden, Brill, 1989) xx, 242pp. The best way to describe this book is that it is a tour de force. The somewhat enigmatic title masks the fact that this volume offers not only a new interpretation of the lost Dialogues of Aristotle, but a new perspective on Aristotle as a whole. In a bold and imaginative new synthesis, Bos challenges the entire body of contemporary Aristotle scholarship, and backs up his assertions with an impressive array of arguments, ranging from detailed philological and doxographical discussions to daring hypotheses of an overall historical and philosophical kind. By means of a fresh synthesis of the fragmentary evidence in other ancient authors with respect to the Dialogues, Bos reconstructs a coherent philosophical conception which, he argues, differs only in manner of presentation (chiefly the use
