W h e n parallels were drawn b e t w e e n Vlasov's supporters and the Decembrist rising, this was in order to ex- plain that the Russian Liberation M o v e m e n t was part o f the mainstream o f the devel- o p m e n t o f Russian history rather than as a way of analysing the state o f m i n d o f the Red Army. Instead, unjustified reliance was placed on sagacity o f the Western Allies as a way o f ensuring justice and change. Hoffmann contends that the failure o f Soviet writers to give an accurate account o f the Russian Liberation Movement, caricaturing Vlasov's intentions without providing c o m p l e t e texts o f any statements, offers p r o o f that the p r o g r a m was potentially a serious threat to the regime.
