SOME REMARKS ON THE STATUS OF THE SUBFAMILY DOLICHODORINAE, WITH DESCRIPTION OF MACRO- TROPHURUS ARBUSTICOLA N.G., N.SP. (NEMATODA: TYLENCHIDAE). BY P. A. A. LOOF Plantenziektenkundige Dienst, Wageningen, The Netherlands The systematic position of the two genera Doli.chodorus Cobb, Ic?I4 (species D. heterocephalus Cobb, 1914, D. obtusus Allen, 1957 and D. similis Golden, 1958) and Belonolaimus Steiner, 1949 (only species B. gracilis Steiner, 1949) has up to now not been definitely established. CHIT?'VOOD & CHITWOOD (1950) united them into a new subfamily Dolichodorinae (family Criconematidae), while THORNE (1949) and GOODEY (1951) placed Dolichodorus doubtfully in the Tylenchidae. Belonolai1nus was not discussed by these authors. The diagnosis of the subfamily by CHITNNI-OOD & CtmTwooD reads: Cuticle coarsely striated, interrupted laterally by 3 or more lateral in- cisures ; both sexes of moderate size, very elongate, eel-shaped; females with 2 ovaries, male with caudal alae terminal (Doliclzodorus) or adanal (Belonolaimus) I ) . CHITWOOD & CHITWOOD defined the family Criconematidae as ha- ving the stylet shaft elongated and the metacorpus greatly enlarged. Obviously for this reason they assigned Dolichodorinae to Criconemati- dae. However, both genera differ from the other members of this fa- mily, according to the original diagnosis by TucpNE
