188 the "Christ Crowned with Thorns", while the "Mock- ing of Christ" must be the earliest of the three and dateable around the end of 1612. 21 ) Actually the "Taking of Christ" and the "Denial of Peter" in the Jitkow Collection might very easily be faithful copies made after lost paintings executed by Honthorst during his Italian sojourn. ADDENDA To the group of paintings discussed above, I should like to add two more which I have since had the opportunity to see. The "Saint Jerome" (fig. 8), attributed to Honthorst and now in the Galleria Nazionale (Palazzo Barbe- has the same patchy handling of paint, the candle with its white flame sur- rounded by a larger but repeated black out- line, the pattern of shadows on the face and the tilt of the head which are so evident in the Hainpton Court, J*.tkow and Spada paint- ings. The second painting is the "Supper at Emmaus" in Chantilly 2), also attributed to Honthorst, which has the same characteristics, including the curious shadow around the flam.e. According to the museum records, the painting was formerly, in the Collection of the Prince of Salerno in the Palazzo Soderini, Rome. -- , - -.,. -- . - ..- ... -- Knoet, J., W. Mol. Dubiez Referring to the publications by Mr. J. Knoef about the nineteenth-century Dutch painter Wouterus Mol of Haarlem, mention may be made of a black crayon drawing of this little known master, in the author's collection.
