VAN DE HERVORMING Toen in november 1566 de Franse gezant aan het Spaanse hof, De Forquevaulx, verslag uitbracht over de troebelen in de Neder- landen, deelde hij mede, dat de Graaf van Hoome beschouwd werd als een van de kapiteins der Calvinisten 1). Daarentegen gaf Alva, toen hij de terechtstelling van Egmond en Hoome voor Philips II beschreef, te kennen, dat beiden zeer Katholiek gestorven waren 2). Met deze tegengestelde getuigenissen geraken we meteen in de problematiek van Hoornes gezindheid tot de Hervorming en de hervormden. Was Hoome Protestant of althans Protestants gezind en werd hij vlak voor zijn dood weer goed Katholiek? Of was hij altijd Katho- liek geweest ?
