Th is volume by a New Zealander currently teaching in the Tyndale Graduate School of Th eology in New Zealand expands his doctoral dissertation defended at the University of London in 1992. Th ough it appears almost twelve years later and retains the style of a dissertation, the book is surprisingly readable and up-to-date. After an introductory chapter on the history of the dialogue between Chris- tians (mostly Protestant and Catholic) and Hindus in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Robinson sets out to accomplish three objectives. First, he describes various kinds of dialogue (informal and formal), the nature and goals of inter-religious dialogue (discursive, secular, interior, and existential), the conditions for a successful dialogue, and its possible results (chapter 2). Secondly, he offers a critical analysis and a theological evaluation of the numer- ous documents and activities in the dialogue between Christians and Hindus.
