Introduction

Introduction INTRODUCTION Welcome to another year of the ALQ. This issue commences with a consideration of the Methodological Issues in Islamic Jurisprudence, by Mohammad Hashim Kamali, Professor, International Islamic University of Malaysia. Professor Kamali examines the origins and effect of methodology, and his contribution adds to the substantive and practical skills of analysis in this area. Our second article is a continuation of the series on the UAE Penal Law, with Dr. Al-Muhairi presenting us with Islamistion and Modernisation within the UAE Penal Law: Shari'a in the Modem Era. The previous examination of the UAE Penal Law has been the subject of great interest, and we are pleased to be able to continue with further articles on the same topic. Dr. Al-Muhairi illustrates how it is possible to adapt theories and jurisprudence, and the divergent views that can follow. The text continues with UAE: Recent Developments, contributed by Afridi & Angell, and Sultanate of Oman: Recent Developments, contributed by Trowers & Hamlin. Finally, the English text of the UAE Implementing Regulations of Federal Law no. 44 of 1992, concerning Patents, Industrial Models and Designs, contributed by TMP Agents, concludes this issue. We look forward to our readers comments and contributions. THE EDITOR http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Arab Law Quarterly Brill
