INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Apart from its prestigious traditional role in the life of each and every Moslem all over the world, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is additionally qualified to lead the rest of the countries of the Gulf Co-Operation Council which came into being in 1981. Although it has been privileged to host the birth of Islam and its ever holy symbols, it has been equally endowed with rich natural resources, mainly oil and other minerals. It occupies the largest area (2,150,000 sq.km.) with modern sea ports at both the Red Sea on the West and the Gulf on the East which lead to its modern network of roads linking all of its inland centres and includes one of the best airport facilities in the world that serves the domestic and international air traffic.
