Box 115, Cambridge CB3 9BP, U.K.) Reviewed by John Bernhard* The book deals with an area of international law which is of great interest to- day, partly because more States have engaged in activities of a commercial or other not strictly iure imperii nature and partly because - as a result of and a reaction to that - there has been a significant legal development in this field in a number of (mainly Western) countries during recent years. The author's point of departure is an article by Professor H. Lauterpacht from 1951 in which some almost revolutionary ideas were put forward. A very far-reaching limitation of State immunity was suggested while State practice was generally still quite conservative, i.e. supporting absolute State immunity. Professor Schreuer is clearly in favour of Professor Lauterpacht's ideas, and he argues comprehensively for the conclusion that recent development has actu- ally followed those ideas to a considerable extent.
