Eine empirische Studie unter jungen Christen, Muslimen und Nicht-Religiösen . Berlin: Lit Verlag, 2012. isbn 978-3-643-11933-9 Because human rights are formulated as moral standards, not underpinned by any sanctioned legal basis, they are debatable and negotiable in our plural modern society. Human rights are linked to and often based on other political and religious values. They are not always accepted as a matter of course and therefore do not constitute a guarantee of peace, security and justice: often they are even a cause of strife. Religions differ especially with regard to life rights and the rights of women and sexual minorities; this, in fact, is the focus of the study ‘Religion and human rights’ initiated by Professor Hans van der Ven of the Radboud University Nijmegen. This research has been conducted since 2007 in 15 countries around the world. A continuation of the study, begun in 2011, was focused mainly on Europe. The present book reports on the German part of the study. Over 2600 students from the upper classes of secondary schools were surveyed in 2007 with a response rate of 60%.
