Ma and Wonsuk Ma, Mission in the Spirit: Towards a Pentecostal/Charismatic Missiol- ogy (Oxford: Regnum Books, 2010), xvii + 312 pp., paper, $37.00. Mission in the Spirit is an important contribution to pentecostal and wider missiology. It offfers a foundational theology of mission, studies in the practice of mission, and pointers for future pentecostal research. Ma & Ma argue that there have been three “ripples” in pente- costal mission — an initial eschatological urgency in evangelism giving way to a focus on transforming the world “this side of heaven” with the need now for wider and deeper mis- sion engagement. Their proposal aims at such a deeper engagement and is based on an understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit in creation. The Spirit is involved in creation and in the re-creation of God’s people. Mission is seen as being at the centre of God’s activity in history and involves the restoration of God’s creation. Individuals and communities are key to the practice of mission and Ma & Ma draw on the charismatic leadership Spirit tradition to stress the importance of encountering God and receiving
