Biur HaGRA, Hilkhot Miqvaot (Denver: Lei —Ÿ ud—Makhon Be x er ha-Torah, 2008), 495 pp. This is a detailed commentary to the commentary by the Vilna Gaon to Shulhan Arukh Yore Deah Siman 201 Diné Hammiqvah umemav. It deals with the Vilna Gaon’s notes and unpacks the writings of the GRA in one area of the Halakhah by turning his comments into sentences, supply- ing sources, and reconstructing the implied logic. The GRA as is well known took for granted a highly literate and disciplined audience and expected his readers to do much of the work of reasoning and research that would ultimately lead to the comment he wished to make. Goldberg’s book adheres to the conventions of the advanced yeshiva world, beginning with reproduced letters of approval contributed by influential authorities of Jewish law throughout the world.
