A SERPENT IN THE GARDEN: A RESPONSE TO HARRIS LENOWITZ 1 Miguel Perez Fernandez University of Granada In 1992, I published a grammar of Rabbinic Hebrew titled La Lengua de los Sabios. I. Morfosintaxis (Valencia, 1992: Biblioteca Midrásica 13). In 1997, Dr. John Elwolde translated it into English, and it was then published by Brill Publishers under the title An Introductory Grammar of Rabbinic Hebrew . Until the work was translated, it was not very well known out of the Spanish language. 2 After its publication in English, the numerous journal reviews show the attention it attracted and suggest its largely favorable reception. 3 Of course, neither cri- tiques, the detection of errors, nor approaches that could be cor- rected or argued were lacking. I believe I thanked every person who reviewed this work for taking on such a job. I also recorded all of their observations so that they could be taken into account in a pos- sible new edition and in my new research.
