Editorial Editorial We had originally intended to devote a special number to Willem Jansz Blaeu ill 19 71, the 4ooth anniversary of the great Dutch cartographer, navigational expert and publisher. On reconsideration, however, the editors decided that during the first years of Quaerendo's existence preference ought to be given to providing readers with the greatest possible range of siibjects. The various contributions on Blaeu have raow been brought together in the present number.
