Percnon gibbesi (H. Milne Edwards, 1853) (Decapoda, Percnidae): first substantiated record from the Adriatic Sea

INTRODUCTION A total of 24 non-indigenous crustacean species have been reported from the Adriatic Sea (11 established, 11 casual, two cryptogenic) (Zenetos et al., 2010). Pečarević et al. (2013) reported 113 non-indigenous marine species (15 phytoplankton, 16 zooplankton, 16 macroalgae, 44 zoobenthic and 22 fish species) that have been recorded in the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea (Croatian waters), 8 of which are crustaceans. One of the most recent immigrants in the Adriatic Sea is Percnon gibbesi (H. It was first recorded from the Mediterranean Sea in 1999 from the island of Linosa (Strait of Sicily) (Rellini et al., 2000) and since then has been recorded from the Balearic Islands (Garcia & Reviriego, 2000; Deudero et al., 2005; Mueller, 2011), the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts of Italy (Russo & Villani, 2005; Faccia & Bianchi, 2007; Crocetta & Colamonaco, 2008), eastwards from Greece (Canicci et al., 2006), Turkey (Yokes & Galil, 2006), Egypt (Azzurro et al., http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Crustaceana Brill
