It is perhaps comparable to 8zx«vixlq (C.P.I. 18) which is there defined as "the holder of a military post, apparently in the cavalry", or to 8zxav6q (C.P.I. 405) : "military or police officer (cf. Roman decuyzo)". This would then constitute the only indi- cation of a military function for the Roman Jewish Community. The only name bearing any likeness is 3zx&q (C.P.1. 206) and the Latin word Decimus, of course. In all probability xocaws in 48 does not belong to the omitted but to a preceding participle which is to be understood. In 458 the future tense quiescet is not neces- sarily wrong, as is supposed by Leon. Quiescat is preferable to his correction quiescit. In 476, the large Latin inscription in hexa- meters, we read i.a. "haec post bis denos secum transsegerat annum et quartum mensem restantibus octo diebus" which is translated by Leon as "After twice ten years she spent with him one year, four months and eight days more", a curious mistake for: four months Less eight days.
