Based on 'close reading' of the text they present us with much more than with a broad survey of L.'s views of the different plays: they constitute in fact a very helpful contribution to the interpretation of Sophoclean tragedy. The present study mainly consists of an examination of the Antigone, in which the author is at pains to show the dramatic significance of each part in connection with the play as a whole.
