The text as printed in DJD is as follows: Following are some comments intended to clarify the text and its interpretation: Line 1: 1170iD Lim renders, "having understood, they lis- tened." More likely is, "you who understand, pay heed." Such exhor- tations are commonplace (especially in wisdom texts), cf. e.g., Isa. 42:18, Prov. 8:33, Job 34:2 ("wise men, hear my words"), Sir. 16:24, 41:14; also IQH 1:34-35 is generally taken to read, 1170iD, "pay heed, you wise men." Line 2: "they caused treachery to cease." However, the word may be bcm not i.e., "above." If this is in the context of ' T. Lim, "4Q Meditation on Creation A," Qumran Cave 4.XV: Sapiential Texts, Part I (eds T. Elgvin et al.; DJD 20; Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997) 151-53. 79 "water" (if the letters ETQ are not part of a larger word), then we may recall at Gen. 1:7. Further, on the basis of Pl.
