Cross et al., Qumran Cave 4.VII: Genesis to Numbers (DJD 12; Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1994) 79 – 95. The NRSV renders Ex 2:3 as follows: “When she could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river.” However, 4QExod b contains an additional three words at 2:3b (based on Cross’ reconstruction), where Moses’ mother issues a command to her maid: “ She said to her maid, ‘Go ! ’ ” ( rmawtw ykl htjpçl ). 2 E.
