Finally, Guy Beck has obliged us by pro- viding a beautifully produced volume with some fascinating research papers present- ing “regional and vernacular variations on a Hindu deity.” The interesting cover art by the author’s wife, Kajal Beck visualises the project of the book that can be called “refracting Krishna” (in a cubist way), illustrating aptly the attempt to approach this popular Hindu deity from many different and unusual angles. Writing an introduction for a volume of this sort is a thankless task. One can never satisfy everyone and it is not easy to determine what audience the author should ad- dress.
