Acta haemat. 32: 355-357 (1964). From the 2nd Medical Unit, Evangelismos Hospital, Athens A Modification of the Hicks and Pitney Test for the Distinction between Haemophilia A and Christmas Disease By C. G a r d ik a s, G. A r a p a k is, D. T h o m o po u l o s a n d T. K a n a g h in is The thromboplastin generation test devised by Biggs and D ouglas (1) is the most reliable test for the differentiation of hae mophilia A from Christmas disease. On the other hand, the screen ing test described by H icks a n d P it n e y (3) provides a rapid and sensitive means of detecting the abnormalities of thromboplastin generation, but being non-specific it cannot distinguish between haemophilia A and Christmas disease. Hence, when the screening test gives abnormal results, one has to proceed further to the per formance of the orthodox thromboplastin generation test. In the present paper a modification o f the H icks an d P it n e y test is described which enables the distinction to be made between haemophilia A and Christmas disease.
