INTRODUCTIONSymposium on Hidradenitis Suppurativa advances, 22‐23 october 2016, Toronto, CanadaThe Symposium on Hidradenitis Suppurativa Advances (SHSA) took place on 22‐23 October 2016 at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, Canada. This symposium was a joint meeting of the Canadian Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation (CHSF), and the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation (HSF Inc.) founded in the USA. The purpose of this meeting was to gather well‐known researchers from different disciplines to discuss most recent innovations, practical challenges and potential solutions to issues related to management and care of HS patients. Furthermore, in this 1.5‐day meeting, a range of interactive educational sessions on the epidemiology, economic burden, pathophysiology and management of HS were organized. This inaugural meeting was well received by 125 attendees: 95 from Canada, 26 from the United States and 4 internationals. A companion manuscript reviews the major gaps in understanding and treatment of HS that were discussed at the meeting.BackgroundHidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a painful, chronic and recurrent inflammatory skin disorder that affects patients in their most productive time of life.
