THE GENERAL ELECTRIC TF34GE2 turbofan engine was designed and developed specifically to fulfil the powerplant requirements of the S3A. Consequently, engine design considerations included both antisubmarine warfare mission requirements and compatibility with a carrierbased environment. To meet both, the engine features high thrusttoweight, low fuel consumption over a wide power range, low noise and smoke, and corrosion resistant materials throughout.
