Webmasters of library home pages are faced with a dramatically increasing number of new Internet sites from which to choose for inclusion on their Web pages. In this study, Cohen tracks the new sites announced on seven popular What’s New services on the Internet twice monthly during the first quarter of 1996 in order to determine the usefulness of these services to an academic library home page endeavor. Sites were classified into 20 subject categories. Of the more than 24,000 new sites classified, only a small percentage fell into subject areas of potential value for an academic library home page. Alternative Web‐based strategies are suggested for locating useful new Internet resources.
