Twentieth Century Practice. The next to the final volume of the series contains simply two subjects: Malaria and Micro-organisms. The first of these, by the Italian authors, Bignami and Marchiafava, who have done so much to elucidate the problems of malaria, comprises not less than 500 pages—including the bibliography, 522 altogether. There is probably no monographic work on the subject that is more thorough than this and it will stand for some time as a leading compend of its subject. It seems, with the numerous questions still to be solved that an attempt at an exhaustive memoir would be premature, but this comes as near to one as possible with our present knowledge. The second section of the work, comprising the last 300 pages or more, covers the general subject of micro-organisms as met with in disease, including their classification, metabolic products, the technique of bacteriology and specific descriptions.
