BY RANDELL HUNT, M.D. SHREVEPORT, LA. Welcome, gentlemen of the American Medical Association! Welcome to this Section, assigned as a place of instruction and enjoyment, for the communication of knowledge and the circulation of thought! And specially welcome to this hall set apart for the science of physiology and dietetics. The chief end of all medicine is to secure to humanity the blessings of health, and this can only be attained by the scientific education of the physician. It is accordingly the paramount duty of all medical associations to foster and promote higher education. The chief cause of disease is ignorance; the foundation of health is knowledge, for knowledge is the parent of science and her natural and only safe guardian.
