A highly important investigation, clinical in its main features, has been arranged to be carried on during the current year by the great British Association. Every anæsthetist, surgeon and hospital in the United Kingdom, and many others, have been supplied with formulated questions, and blank-books of record, suitable for uniformity of returns both from private and hospital practice. The General Committee has for its chairman, Mr. Jonathan Hutchinson, and for honorary secretary, Dr. Christopher Childs, of Weymouth. The work has been begun in good season, and will probably result in the richest harvest of anæsthetic experience that has hitherto been garnered. If the great British body of medical workers can be induced to move en masse in any such collective investigation, and to give a whole year to any allotted subject, it would seem like breaking open " a royal road" to knowledge.
