The wide range of usefulness as an anæsthetic for cocaine seems as yet unlimited. After the many eulogies upon it in its effects to prevent pain in operations upon the eye, ear, nose, teeth, skin, I have one to add—that of its power to completely anæsthetize the mucous membrane of the urethra, permitting the painless introduction of the sound, and of enabling the surgeon to operate by cutting on strictures of the urethra by a completely painless method.
