Abstract This monograph may be considered a sequel to Surgical Treatment of Acute Myocardial Ischemia, written by the author some five years earlier. As such, it has been expanded to reflect current thinking and the fact that a broad medical-surgical effort is necessary for optimal management of acute coronary disease. The first two chapters describe the pathology, physiology, and biochemistry of myocardial infarction and efforts to limit loss of muscle. Two shorter chapters are devoted to surgical technique and management of the mechanical complications of myocardial infarction. Three chapters describe in detail the medical-surgical management of acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, and the arrhythmias of myocardial ischemia. This book presents an institutional (Peter Bent Brigham Hospital) approach by cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons who work together, which is characterized by good logic and moderate conservatism. A sound and sensible approach to the management of the patient with unstable angina is detailed and, http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Surgery American Medical Association
