Abstract The book entitled Malignant Melanoma of the Skin and Mucous Membrane by G. W. Milton, MBBS, with chapters by B. J. McGovern, MD, and Martin G. Lewis, MD, is an interesting and informative book that contains a wealth of information from the personal experience of the authors regarding malignant melanoma. Professor Milton, director of the Melanoma Unit at Sydney Hospital, is one of the most knowledgeable surgeons in Australia on this subject, and restricts his practice to the treatment of melanoma. The patients seen on this unit during the period of his tenure have been carefully studied and have benefitted from his knowledge and experience. Dr McGovern is a highly respected Australian pathologist who developed a system of relating prognosis of melanoma to the depth of invasion.
